Photos
Apple does not offer a public Photos API we can plug in. We use iCloud Shared Albums and a public website link. No embeds — iCloud iframes are unreliable.
Make a shared album
- On iPhone, iPad, or Mac, open the Photos app.
- Start a New Shared Album. Name it after the trip.
- In People, invite family who should add photos.
- Turn on Public Website.
- Copy the link. It looks like
https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/…. - Paste that URL on the trip page’s Photos section. The Open album button uses it.
ExampleWe do not invent album links. Until a real album exists, the button stays off.
How we use it
- One album per trip — not a dump of the whole camera roll.
- Family can add from their own Photos app.
- Friends get the public website (or the friends trip link, which points at the same album).
- If we stop sharing, turn Public Website off in the album’s People settings.
What we don’t do
- No iframe of iCloud on this site.
- No fake “connected to Apple Photos” switch.
- No Facebook photo sync. Recaps go out with Post to Facebook on the trip page, and a caption we copy ourselves.
